Extraordinary. Thank you for sharing. The testimony at the end brought me to tears. For all that he has been through, just to be so there for the wayward son.

Brilliant piece, the letters from Tony are so inspiring. But you are right, many people who are, I believe bewildered and shocked at the things going on in the world and the revelation that institutions that they once trusted are corrupt beyond belief and that the powerful have no fear of the masses and see themselves as unaccountable to anyone are turning to God or more spiritualism. They see it as the only way to cope and have hope that something or someone beyond this world can make things right again.

Gord I might be in a similar place as you regarding a philosophical and spiritual journey into Christianity, in particular in light of societal and political events of the past several yeas. I'm reading CS Lewis' "Mere Christianity" now which you might also enjoy.

I'm friends with Ashley and Fahran through the Doomer Optimism podcast, and I'm an avid listener of the Good Ol Boys and have enjoyed your conversations with them.

Bless you buddy! I'm going to send letters to these guys and hopefully add a drop to their reservoirs of cheer and perseverance.

Look into Vaclav Havel's "Charter 77" declaration, and how it helped to finally overthrow the Czech dictatorship. All he wanted was for the government to obey its own laws, and for that he was imprisoned multiple times. Canada and America are examples of Havel's "post-totalitarian" dictatorship that arose when totalitarians encountered the consumer society. We see such dictators everywhere in 2024. I'm no Vaclav Havel, but my plan is Charter 24.

Thank you for your writing. Pilgrim’s Progress and Mere Christianity are wonderful books. If you have kids, Little Pilgrim’s Progress is very good too, or for adults wanting more modern language.

I pray for the Lord’s Justice and mercy for Canada. May the wrong fail and the right prevail (as it says in that old Carol I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow). I’ve been praying for a revival of hearts seeking Jesus. He is stirring up a hunger for truth! May He bless and keep the Coutts 4, strengthened internally by the Holy Spirit.
