Re the Dutch farmers: it's worth bearing in mind that the Netherlands is quite a small country, and has a great tradition and pride in it's farming sector. In other countries, farmers maybe won't have so much clout. But, in theory, truckers have clout EVERYWHERE.
FYI the Netherlands has a vibrant trucking scene as well. The biggest European truck show is at Assen every year, and Google "the only way is Dutch" to see the Dutch customising style.
